Welcome MARCH at The Brick as we celebrate a brand-new exhibit… FIELD CONCERT, A One-Woman Art Exhibit featuring artworks by Kay Deuben, opens Friday, March 4th from 5-6:30pm. Join us in the gallery for tapas, libations, raffle prizes, and the chance to meet our featured artist.
All pieces are for sale, and a percentage of each sale will benefit the Mill Creek Farm Retirement Home for Horses in Alachua County.

About the Artist: KAY DEUBEN – A native of Kansas, Kay has early memories of cows, chickens, dogs, cats and dinners with fresh milk and fried chicken. Grandmothers made quilts and every one had a craft or talent to contribute to everyday surroundings. An appreciation of hard work came early on. Kay’s Mother never needed instructions on anything. She just figured out how to paint and do her own art and was an award winning quilter and painter. Truly a creative springboard.
Fascinated by the American Royal in Kansas City, an annual fall event in the KC metro area since 1899, featuring livestock, horses, rodeo and barbeque and was the founding event for Future Farmers of America. Resources are photos of herds and solitary animals in pastures during travels throughout the countryside. Occasionally a zoo comes into my range with animals there. These photos have become a springboard for the current show.
Sir Valahad, a retired race horse, is Kay’s cosponsored inspiration. He was rescued at a kill farm in south Florida after a career in racing. He is a current resident at Mill Creek Farm, Retirement Farm for Horses in Alachua. The efforts of the great crew at Mill Creek as well as other animal welfare organizations will be supported by a portion of each sale at the show.
With a long history of drawing and painting since as far back as can be remembered. Work was always art related either in personally producing the art or assisting other artists to accomplish their goals. The fashion industry, commercial printing, design and silk screen printing as well as computer art are included in Kay’s personal history. After a degree in English literature at the University of Kansas and a brief 2 years of art school at John Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Kay has explored different varieties of media. Currently Kay paints in oils and pastels and occasionally use watercolor or acrylics.
Intuitive and representational, Kay’s work is shown at Mossman Hall in Melrose, in St. Augustine with the First Coast Pastel Society and in Central Florida with the Pastel Society of Central Florida. Included are the Art Guild of Orange Park and MCA exhibits as available by subject matter. Kay has received numerous awards for excellence in Print Production and Design as well as Best in Show and other mentions in local art shows and competitions. Her work is in collections of patrons across the US.
