Drunken Oedipus Rex

May 7, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm

The Drunk Dionysians are paying homage to the great Dionysian Festival of old by performing one of Sophocles’ most well-known plays. We’ll also be “sacrificing” one of the actors to Dionysus, the god of Wine and Joy by making them down several drinks at the beginning of the performance as well as during the show by turning the play into a drinking game to ensure maximum chaos.

How it works:

As you find a seat and enjoy your first drink and snack, you’ll enjoy greek music to set the mood. As the show begins the rules will be set and an actor, chosen at random (who will already have had a few) will go through the sacrificial ritual and ensure that we put the “drunk” in “Drunk Oedipus”. What ensues will be a show that you’ll never forget. Be ready to laugh and have a great time as The Drunk Dionysians take you on a theatrical drinking game unlike any you’ve ever seen experienced.

Ticket Types: Must be 21+

General Admission: With each ticket purchased you will receive a glass of wine and grapes to indulge in like the God or Goddess that you are.

The VIP Experience: Includes the above mentioned with the addition of a personal cheese board and priority seating.

The Play: Oedipus Rex

A plague has stricken Thebes. The citizens gather outside the palace of their king, Oedipus, asking him to take action. Oedipus replies that he already sent his brother-in-law, Creon, to the oracle at Delphi to learn how to help the city. Creon returns with a message from the oracle: the plague will end when the murderer of Laius, former king of Thebes, is caught and expelled; the murderer is within the city. Oedipus questions Creon about the murder of Laius, who was killed by thieves on his way to consult an oracle. Only one of his fellow travelers escaped alive. Oedipus promises to solve the mystery of Laius’s death, vowing to curse and drive out the murderer. By the end of the play we come upon an M. Night Shymalan level twist that leaves everyone changed.
