CREATE at The Brick: Jewelry Making
July 17, 2021 @ 11:30 am - 3:30 pm
$65Marion Cultural Alliance presents…
COLD-CONNECTED JEWELRY MAKING SERIES, with Denny Machette Pizarro at The Brick Gallery!
In this monthly workshop series, students will explore a variety of methods that can be used to join layers of metals, stones, glass or other found objects together. Cold-Connections refers to mechanical ways to attach two metals, etc. together without using a torch or solder. Learn how to use metal tabs to hold a stone, or other object to create a pendant, earrings, rings, and more all while exploring the use of wires or tubes to rivet objects together!
Try your hand at using a jeweler’s saw to cut out metal designs, learn the proper use of files and sandpaper to smooth rough edges. Drilling holes, doming and texturizing, as well as riveting. This class is open to novices or returning students.
Think of this as an introduction to many different techniques that can be used to make jewelry. The only thing missing is the torch! Not all skills will be taught; however, demonstrations of techniques will be given and students will have time to practice their new skills as they create a pendant and earrings.
Bring a sketch pad, fine point sharpie and lots of ideas for inspiration. A variety of tools will be available for students’ use. Metals will include copper as well as stones, glass and beads. If you have a special stone or shell you’d like to include in a piece of jewelry, bring it along. Bronze and silver can be purchased for an additional fee through the instructor. For Safety Purposes: Please wear closed-toe shoes and have hair tied back. Masks and social distancing is required while inside the gallery.
Bring your imagination and be prepared to be amazed at what you can make. REGISTER TODAY HERE: https://mcaocala.networkforgood.com/…/29393-create-at…
